Membership

What Is Membership at Noe Valley Church (NVC)?

All are welcome to worship at Noe Valley Church. We also invite you to consider becoming a member. Membership is a way of committing to our shared life—shaping the community, supporting its ministries, and growing together in faith and belonging.

A member of Noe Valley Church is a person who has been baptized, has made a profession of faith and has been received by the Session (the governing body of the congregation). Members have the right to vote, hold office, and participate fully in the church’s ministry (Source Book of Order G-1.04)

How do I become a member of Noe Valley Church?

  1. If you have never been baptised, speak with the pastor about baptism and profession of faith.
  2. If you have been baptised but have not been to church for awhile, speak with the pastor about a reaffirmation of faith.
  3. If you want to transfer your membership from another church to Noe Valley Church, speak to the pastor about a letter of transfer.

In addition, all prospective members are invited to take the class, “Intro to NVC,” which is offered several times a year.

Membership Details

A person is received into membership one three ways (Source Book of Order G-1.03):

  1. Profession of Faith: for those being baptized for the first time.
  2. Reaffirmation of Faith: for those who are already baptized but are not currently active members of a Christian church.
  3. Letter of Transfer: for those who have been active members in another Christian church and wish to transfer their membership.

In all three cases, anyone wanting to become a member can first talk to the pastor to determine which approach is best. After this is completed, the Session officially receives them, and adds their name to the membership rolls.

It is also the custom of Noe Valley Church to have a Celebration of New Beginnings for all new members (providing they want to of course!)
